The Crowd
As one might imagine, the crowd has vastly changed over the decades. From the size of the crowd to fashion and the diversity of the student body, each era reflects its own unique character. While the students of 1950 wore relatively casual attire to the Homecoming events, students from the early 2000s to today can be seen in formal dresses for the Homecoming dance, and decked out in blue and ODU merchandise for the athletic game and parade. These changes highlight the ways that school spirit and Homecoming traditions have evolved over time.
Homecoming week offers a variety of events for students, alumni, families, and fans to enjoy. The Alumni Honors event celebrates ODU Alumni who have excelled in their professions and those who have made a lasting impact on their communities. Another longstanding tradition is the annual Black Alumni Chapter (BAC) Brunch, which brings alumni together for a buffet, refreshments, and networking opportunites. Parents’ Weekend gives families the chance to join in on the festivities and see all of the school spirit around campus. Tailgates also bring students, alumni, and fans together to have some fun before the football game starts.
