Preparation for Homecoming

A lot of effort goes into homecoming week, and the ODU student body works hard to make sure it is perfect. The Mace and Crown places an advertisement each year letting the students know that everyone’s favorite time of year is starting and what to expect. They will publish a schedule of the week and an ad for homecoming dance tickets. The schedule includes the game, the dance, a concert, a parade, and other fun activities.

Posters are made by the homecoming court to campaign to become King and Queen. The homecoming court works hard to campaign each year for the big win. In 2020, the competition was heavy, as most events were canceled except for homecoming court and a few virtual events. The winners, Cole Shepherdson and Nia McShine discussed in The Mace and Crown how they had to find new ways to campaign and switch to a mainly digital format to achieve their win.
