Preparation
Homecoming Week requires extensive planning and cordination, with students and University organizations working together to make sure everything is perfect for the celebration. Over the years, the Mace and Crown student newspaper would place an advertisement letting the students know that everyone’s favorite time of year was starting and what to expect. These publications often included a schedule of activities and ads for Homecoming dance tickets. The schedule featured the football game, dance, concert, parade, and many other activities that brought students together to celebrate Monarch pride and school spirit.
Traditionally, posters were created by members of the Homecoming Court as part of their campaigns to become Homecoming king and queen. The Homecoming Court and candidates work hard to campaign each year for the big win. In 2020, the competition was especially challenging, as most events were canceled except for Homecoming Court and a few virtual events. The winners, Cole Shepherdson and Nia McShine, discussed in the Winter 2021 issue of the Mace and Crown how they adapted their campaigns by finding new ways to connect with students and shifting to a primarily digital format to achieve their win.
