Early "Builders"
Several individuals were instrumental in bringing the Norfolk Division of William & Mary to Norfolk. Among them are the following:
Dr. Julian Alvin Carroll Chandler, circa 1930-1939
- President of William & Mary
- Ensured the establishment of the Norfolk Division
- Chandler Hall (now Constant Hall) was named in his honor.
Joseph Ewart Healy, circa 1930-1939
- Director of William & Mary extension program in Norfolk
- Principal of Blair Junior High School
- Assisted with the purchase of the Larchmont Elementary School and in establishing the Norfolk Division of William & Mary
- Healy was interviewed by Robert H. Land of William & Mary on June 9, 1960.
A. H. Foreman, circa 1930-1939
- Chairman of the Noroflk School Board
- Member of the William & Mary Board of Visitors
- Foreman Field was named in his honor
Robert Morton Hughes, circa 1930-1939
- Member of William & Mary Board of Visitors (1893-1917)
- Suggested the need for a two-year branch of William & Mary in Norfolk
- Hughes Library and Hughes Hall (now Dragas Hall) were named in his honor
- The Old Dominion University Libraries' Special Collections and University Archives houses The Papers of Robert Morton Hughes
