Shelby Lewis (seated at left), Acting Dean of the School of Arts and Letters at Clark Atlanta University, talks with a member of the audience following her keynote address at the program, "Beyond the Vote: The Contributions of African-American Women to Community Life in Hampton Roads." More than 200 women attended the daylong program, which featured talks by area civic leaders. The free program was sponsored by Women's Studies and the Institute for the Study of Minority Issues.
